Portia de Rossi speaks about her eating disorder and sexuality

Portia DeGeneres (professionally known as Portia de Rossi) is a celebrity that I cannot help but be drawn to—as she is a lesbian who has previously struggled with anorexia. The question as to whether or not her anorexia was due to her closeted sexual orientation, for me, remains unclear.

From what I know—and not yet having read her book Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain (it’s on the ‘to-read’ list)—Portia nicely illustrates how complex eating disorders are and also how sometimes the link between eating disorders and sexual orientation can be very complicated. I’ll be commenting more on this topic after I have read the book.
